What a great night for baseball at the Dean Park field complex.  The weather was perfect and the crowd was ready to see the Tigers and Angel battle in an American League matchup.  This was opening night for the Tigers and the Angels were coming in hot after a big win on Monday night against the Braves.

The home team Angels started with hurler Jeffrey Randazza and the Tigers struck for 2 runs. Rookie Ryan Iagallo led off with a double to the right-center gap and Brian Kerekon crushed a triple to center. He later scored on a single by Scott Hanam.  The Tigers sent veteran Hanam to the mound but the Angels wasted no time getting on the board with 2 runs to tie the game. Matt Bergquist led off with a walk and scored on rookie Connor Mudd’s triple to right. Mudd later scored on Ben Griffith sacrifice fly.  End of the 1st Inning:  Tigers 2, Angels 2

The Tigers added to their lead with 1 run in the 2nd inning. Noah Garvin and Ryan Iagallo walked before Garvin scored on an RBI single by Carter Marques. Marques tried to stretch his single to a double but was thrown out at second base with a nifty tag by Andrew Miao.  Scotty Hanam was back on the mound in the 2nd and he was dealing, quickly getting 2 outs.  Eddy Naras then stepped up and hit a line shot to left center field that had extra bases written all over it but rookie Ryan Iagallo had other ideas. He calmly tracked it down and made a diving grab off the top of the grass to take the hit away and end the inning. End of the 2nd Inning:  Tigers 3, Angels 2

The Angels called to the bullpen for Jace Sweetwood and the Tigers broke it open with some patient at bats and timely hits from Marques, Sam Bachini, Jax Roderick and Noah Garvin.  Kamden Duprey also had a great at bat working a walk and coming around to score on a Kerekon double.  In the bottom half of the inning, Hanam was back at it with a 12-pitch 1-2-3 inning, highlighted with a great catch in shallow right field by 2nd baseman Roderick.   End of the 3rd Inning:  Tigers 12, Angels 2

Brad Reynolds took the hill in the 4th and the Tigers weren’t done.  Iagallo laced a single, Kerekon walked and Hanam crushed a 2-run triple to center field before Reynolds retired the side.  The Angel’s Ben Griffith greeted his Colonials AAU teammate (Hanam) by depositing a bomb over the center field fence for his 2nd dinger in this young season.  That didn’t seem to phase Hanam as he shrugged it off and retired the side to finish the inning and end the game.   Final Score:  Tigers 14, Angels 3

Great game with some highlight reel plays in the field.  We wish both teams the best of luck for their seasons and interestingly enough, these 2 teams will play each other again next Wednesday for a 7:30pm game on Dean 3!
