It was a beautiful spring evening down at the old ballpark. The Astros were in town to face a young aggressive Dodgers team on Coolidge 3.

To kick things off the Dodgers sent Anthony Giampapa to the mound marking his third appearance of the season. Anthony would not make things easy for the Astros retiring the first two batters he faced. The Astros would however muster a run late in the inning to take an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the first Colin Desruisseaux took the mound coming off of his best start of the season and he wouldn’t disappoint. Colin would retire the first three batters he faced on just nine pitches. End of one …Astros 1 …Dodgers 0

Anthony would head back out to the mound looking to keep things close in the second. Key hits by Parker Mulryan and Suhas Bharthepude, along with some heads-up base running, helped the Astros score three times in the second. Anthony would settle in and close things out with a strikeout, giving him four K’s on the day. Colin made quick work of the Dodgers in the bottom of the second striking out three of the four batters he faced. End of two …Astros 4 …Dodgers 0

To the third we go and skipper Derek D’antilio would hand the ball over to young Connor Lum in relief. Connor would retire the first batter he faced but hits by Michael Harrington, Tyler Boehnke, and the second of the day for Parker would prove to be the difference, as the Astros would add to their lead seeing five runners cross home plate. But the Dodgers would not go quietly! In the bottom of the third they would begin to rally. Hits by Thomas Mendoza, Andrew Senior, and Connor Lum would help the Dodgers get on the scoreboard twice. Colin would strikeout the last batter he faced ending his stellar three inning performance with a total of eight K’s.  End of three …Astros 9 … Dodgers 2

With the sun setting Derek returned to the mound for the Dodgers getting the first out, before turning things over to Thomas Mendoza in relief. Solid plate discipline would be a theme for the Astros as they would once again circle the bases scoring five times. In the bottom of the fourth the Astros would send Suhas Bharthepude to the mound in the hopes of closing out the game. The Dodgers once again showed they weren’t going down without a fight. Anthony would lead things off with a single and a few batters later Braydon Berge would do the same. But Suhas would collect himself and find his pitching mojo ending the inning and the game by way of the K.  End of four …Astros 14 …Dodgers 2

It was a great atmosphere at the park with both teams playing hard to the very end. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.
