On a hot Wednesday night Dean Park hosted the second match-up between the undefeated Marlins and the division rival Reds.  Their first meeting was a nail biter and the fans would not be disappointed this night either.

Reds sent Luke Reardon to the hill to face the hard hitting top of the Marlins order.  Luke was painting the corners and only gave up 2 hits in the inning however with some patience at the plate and the 2 timely hits the Marlins sent 8 hitters to the plate and 4 runs across.  The Marlins countered with David Escobar.  Line-drive Larkin led off with a scorched single and stole second on the next pitch.  Then a huge help yourself triple by Reardon plated Larkin and Reardon was able to score on a passed ball.  Chase Collins drew a walk keeping the rally alive but Escobar settled in a struck out the next hitters.  Marlins 4 - Reds 2 after 1.

The second inning saw both pitchers show off their stuff and combined for 6 Ks and 1BB.  The 3rd inning saw the Reds send Matty Larkin to the mound.  After a tough first pitch to Ghidella putting him on the pinch runner was caught stealing and Kam Zaheer hit a hard ground ball to 3rd which Duncan Hasting handled and threw out Zaheer on a close play at first.  Next batter Dushyant Singh took a pitch from Larkin and hit a ball that may still be orbiting.  Gianni Colonero followed that up with a single but Larkin retired the next batter ending any though of a 2 out rally.  Larkin led off the bottom of the inning with a BB and moved around the bases and was brought home with an RBI by Chase Collins.  Marlins 5 - Reds 3 after 3.

David Escobar led off with a single in the 4th for the Marlins and made his way around the base with some help by rookie JJ Ferguson and a hard hit single.  The side was then retired with 2 ground ballouts fielded by JP (Jonathan Papzian) to end any threat the Marlins were planning.  The Reds hitters came to the plate with eyes on making a charge.  Sending all 10 batters to the plate the Reds pushed across 5 runs to take the lead helped by timely singles by Duncan Hastins and yet another hard hit ball by Larkin.  Marlins 6 - Reds 8 after 4.

The next 2 innings saw some excitement but only 1 run from the Marlins and Larkin closed out the game for the Reds and give the Marlins their first loss of the year.  A great game played by both teams for the 2nd time this year.  If they meet again there could be something big at stake.

FINAL SCORE - Reds 8  -  Marlins 7
