The Cardinals and Royals got together on the hottest night of the year so far, it was a great night for baseball.

The Cardinals were the away team and up to the plate first facing Royals pitcher Bryan Richardson.  The Cardinals managed 5 runs with patient at-bats, earning 7 walks to help push all 5 runs across the plate.

Ben Lane was on the mound for the Cardinals in his second appearance of the season and his first start of the season.  Bryan Richardson led things off for the Royals with a triple to centerfield and later scored after some hard-earned walks by the Royals hitters.  Ben settled down and managed to get three Royals hitters by way of the K.  End of the 1ST:  Cardinals 5, Royals 1.

The second inning was like the first inning for the Cardinals.  After a K and a couple of walks by new Royals pitcher Jack Mitchell, Colin Marques hit a double to centerfield to score a run.  Jack battled hard and managed to strike out the side but not before the Cardinals managed to put three additional runs on the board.

In the home half of the inning the Royals got things going off Cardinals pitchers Ben Lane and later Ben Miller who came on in relief.  Brayden Crandall hit a single surrounded by some walks which scored a couple of runs for the Royals.  With the bases loaded Jake Grenier stepped to the plate and hit a line drive down the third base line that seemed to roll forever.  In the end, Jake touched all the bases for a grand slam home run.  End of the 2nd:  Cardinals 9, Royals 6.

Things quieted down in the third inning.  After a lead-off walk by Elliot Moore, who then stole second, Royals pitcher Jake Grenier managed three quick strikeouts to strand Elliot on second base.

Ben Miller was equal to the task for the Cardinals and after surrendering a lead-off walk to Tee Hutt, who then stole second, Ben struck out the next three batters to end the inning.  End of the 3rd: Cardinals 9, Royals 6.

The fourth inning brought Jake Grenier back to the mound to face the top of the Cardinals lineup and with some good patient at-bats the Cardinals loaded the bases and scored a couple of runs.  Max Mitchell was on in relief and struck out two straight batters to end the Cardinals threat.

Colin Marques was the third pitcher of the night for the Cardinals and lead things off with a K to the first batter.  Wesley Tuttle reached first after getting hit by a pitch but Colin settled down and got a soft liner back to the mound for the second out and a K for the third out to end the inning and the game.  The game had reached its time limit.  End of game: Cardinals 11, Royals 6.

Good luck to both teams the rest of the season and into the playoffs.
