Thursday night at Dean 3, the late game featured a pitching duel in an interleague game of the Athletics against the Cardinals.

The Cardinals sent Thomas Dowling to the mound, he gave up one walk in the inning, but that was all he was giving up. In the bottom half of the frame Brendan Sheard came to the mound, after giving up a leadoff single to centerfield by James Troy, he struck out the next three batters.

The second inning saw a little more action with two walks to Michael Halloran and Drew Reeves for the As.  Theo Hendricks hit an infield ground ball that moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd base, but Then Dowling finished off the inning to keep the As off the scoreboard. Aiden Ghidella led of the bottom of the 2nd with a single and then Sheard struck out three of the next four batters.

In the third inning the As tried to get on the board with a walk and stolen base by Jack Reeves, but that was all they would get. And the Cardinals went down 1-2-3 to end the inning.

The top of the fourth inning saw the biggest action of the night. Riley Ford led off with a single, followed by a walk to Thomas Crowley. Then Matthew Arsenault came up and sent a long blast over the left fielder and cleared the bases with a home run. After that, Cardinals pitcher Ryan Flynn got out the next three batters, two by strike out. The As sent veteran Michael Halloran to the mound, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

In the fifth inning, the As tried to keep the scoring going with walks to Theo Hendricks and Jesse Zheng, but Flynn would record three strikeouts in the inning. Then Halloran followed up with three strikeouts of his own to end the fifth inning.

James Troy came to the mound in the last inning for the Cardinals. Alex Shaw got a leadoff hit to right field, followed by a hit to centerfield by Riley Ford. The As were able to get bases loaded, but Troy shut them down with three strikeouts. Halloran secured the game and the win for As.
