On a beautiful evening for baseball, the (really) late game at Dean 1 featured the Giants visiting the Angels.  This game featured some high-quality defensive plays by both squads.

The Giants wasted no time getting the offense rolling.  Consecutive hits by Matt Raffi, Alex George, and Drew O’Connell plated two runs.  Two more would score as the Giants were patient at the plate and worked some bases-loaded walks.  Veteran Mark Ishkanian took the hill for the Giants and worked a quick 1-2-3 inning, highlighted by a diving foul pop-up catch by first baseman Mike Canty.  Score at the end of one was 4-0 Giants.

In the top of the second inning, the Giants were held off the board despite getting two men on base.  Sam Katnalu made a great play in the inning by grabbing a hard two-hopper to third and throwing a strike to catch the speedy Raffi by a step at first.  The Angels bats came alive in the bottom of the second inning.  Hits by Shane Abramovitz, Katnalu, Gillian Woodcome, and Brendan Lyonnais brought two runs home before Ishkanian finished the inning with a K to prevent further damage.  Another potential run in the inning was cut down at the plate by a fantastic 7-6-2 relay by the Giants.  Score at the end of two innings was 4-2 Giants.

There was no scoring in the third inning, as both sides went down quickly.  The Angels turned in a defensive gem when center fielder Sunil Santry cut off a smash to right center by Ishkanian and threw a strike to second base to nail the runner.  Still 4-2 Giants at the end of three innings.  Oliver Ryerson was outstanding in relief for the Angels, throwing 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

In the top of the fourth, the Giants broke it open with an 8-run explosion.  Patience at the plate and well-timed extra base hits by Ace Tyrrell (double) and Canty (triple to deep left) helped the Giants cause greatly.  Key RBIs were notched by Frank Goppel, Cole Camerer, and Zach Papper.  The Angels were not able to score in the bottom of the fourth and the final was Giants 12, Angels 2.

This game was much closer than the score indicated.  The Angels swung the bats very well and battled to the last out.  Both teams made some amazing plays in the field, and this was an entertaining game for the fans to watch.  Great kids and great coaches/parents on both sides.  Best of luck to the two teams going forward.
