The Padres and White Sox met up on a beautiful May evening under the lights at Dean Park this past Saturday night.  Both teams were excited to square up against each other and although the score said otherwise, both teams provided offensive fireworks.

The Padres took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first off White Sox hurler Joe Morris with Cameron Kelly scoring the first run on consecutive walks.  Morris hung in there though and struck out Jaydon Dumont to put a stop to the Padres first inning scoring. Morris would go on to record six strikeouts of his own, allowing only one run and no hits.

Cameron Kelly took the hill for the Padres and kept the White Sox bats quiet through three innings mowing down 8 of the first 13 batters he faced. Kelly allowed just one run and two hits through four innings pitched.  Kelly gave up one hit in both the third and fourth innings. Kelly would eventually go on to collect 11 strikeouts through 4 innings of play.

Both teams’ bats came alive in the fourth inning with the Padres striking first.  Lead off walks to Jackson Morgan and Angelo McNamara and a base hit by Adam Trani loaded the bases for Zavonte Walker.  Walker would eventually walk bringing Cameron Kelly to the plate.  Kelly doubled to center scoring McNamara and Trani.  Kelly’s hit, was followed by Dante Solitro’s bomb to right center.  Solitro ended up with a triple on the play.  This extended the Padres’ lead to 7-0.  The White Sox responded though in the bottom half of the fourth.  A lead off HBP by Kelly to White Sox slugger Jack Wharton brought Joe Morris to the plate.  Morris took Kelly deep to center on a line drive laser beam.  A great throw by Angelo McNamara kept Morris to a double and allowed Kelly to settle down and hold off a potential big inning by the White Sox.  Padres 7- White Sox 1.

The Padres offensive attack continued in the top of the fifth inning. A lead off single by Sota Matsuda got things started.  Key walks by Jack Costa, Brody Sheard, Jackson Morgan, and Angelo McNamara allowed Adam Trani (single) and Cameron Kelly (double) to add to the offensive surge and plate five more Padres’ runners. Sota Matsuda came on to pitch for the Padres in the bottom of the fifth.  Matsuda would go on to strike out six White Sox batters over the final two innings of play.  The only hit he allowed came in the bottom of the sixth when Joe Morris, once again hit a bomb to left center and was held to a double.

The Padres added to their lead in the top of the sixth inning with walks by Sota Matsuda, Brody Sheard, Jackson Morgan, and Angelo McNamara.  The lone hit in the inning came from Jaydon DuMont on a line drive base hit up the middle.

The White Sox pitching staff led by Joe Morris, Kyle Dodge, and Amanda Kelmer struck out 11 Padres batters. While the Padres, led by Cameron Kelly and Sota Matsuda struck out 17 White Sox batters.  The White Sox offense was led by Joe Morris 2 doubles and Neel Afini (single). The Padres offense was led by Cameron Kelly: 3 hits (2 singles and a double) Adam Trani (2 singles), Dante Solitro: 2 hits (single and triple) and Sota Matsuda and Jaydon DuMont each collecting a single.

Good luck to both teams as they finish up their regular seasons!
