Another great sunny spring evening for baseball. The Nationals traveled to the League leading Cardinals in their second game in a row against teams in the top of the National League standings. It was Max Caputo getting the start for the Nats and "Jack" St Pierre on the mound for Cardinals. This game had the feel of a playoff game from the start. Pitching was the name of the game for both teams today in what may have been the fastest game of the minors this year haha

In the top of the 1st Jack made quick work of the first hitter fielding a ball and throwing him out at first. A great hit by James Flanagan followed by a walk to Max started a would be Nats rally. But a great play at shortstop to get a force at third followed by a great catch from Owen Parry-Cruwys on a fly ball in foul territory at first got the cardinals out of the jam!

In the bottom of the first the Cardinals got the pressure up too as a lead off single from Colin Marques and a walk to Jack had the Cardinals threatening. Max took the inning over all by himself catching two fly balls and getting a big K to retire the side. 0-0 after 1

In the 2nd inning it was Andrew Blanchette with one of the bigger hits on the day lacing a double to right center. He would score on a Patrick Babola single. Jack would bare down and close out the inning on another fine fielded ball and two K's.

In the bottom of the 2nd Max made quick work of the Cards retiring the side in order on 2 K's and a grounder to first.
1-0 Nationals after 2 inn.

In the top of the 3rd the Cardinals would turn to Owen who came in firing. Outside of a walk to Kieran Kelly he would strike out three to end the inning.

In the bottom of the 3rd the Cards got a nice hit up the middle from Parker Kauffman. But the rest of the inning was all Max again as he got two more K's and fielded a come backer for the other out.
End of 3rd still 1-0.

As we got into the 4th Owen kept firing. Two more k's. Then another great at bat from red hot Andrew as he ripped another hit up the middle. He would make it to Second but was stranded there after Owen would get another K.

In the bottom of the 4th the Nationals turned to Christian Prizio. Colin would lead off with a double. After a couple K's and a couple walks the tension of this nail biter was getting thick. A full count to Ribhav Chand had everyone holding their breath on the next pitch....Ribhav made a great infield hit! Christian tried his best to get there and make the throw but Ribhav just beat it out at first tying the game 1-1. Christian would collect himself and get a K to end the Cards threat.

In the top of the 5th the Cardinals would turn to another one of their aces Patrick O'Toole. The tension would build again as Cameron Espino would lead it off with a single and advance to second on an over throw. But Patrick quickly mowed the next three hitters down on K's.

In the bottom of the 5th the Nats turned to their late inning man Kieran Kelly to keep the game tied. He delivered in 6 pitches getting two straight ground outs back to him and a K.
1-1 after 5 inn

In the top of the 6th it was Teo Yilmaz getting on with a HBP. He would steal second to get himself in scoring position. Kieran would slap a hit to the left side of the mound. Patrick made a great slide to get to the ball but his throw would not beat Kieran to first! Teo with his foot on the gas pedal never stopped running and was waived home on the play for a 2-1 Nats lead! Patrick would strike out 3 of the next four batters to keep it close.

In the bottom of the 6th Parker again with a huge fly to the edge of the outfield but it was Andrew Blanchette making a great catch for the first out. Kieran would then get a K. Cardinals down to their last at bat, had their best hitter of the day up. Colin again drove the ball this time between 1st and second but again it was Andrew making the play to his left and throwing the runner out at first.
Final score Nats win 2-1.

Sensational game all around! So well played. Great pitching. Great Defense. Everybody was swinging! As a coach it was a pleasure to watch that one. These kids are learning so much so fast. Best of Luck to both teams on the remainder of the season!
