On a cloudy Tuesday after the holiday weekend, the Reds travelled across the country to face the Padres in a critical late season in-league match-up.  Both teams holding winning records and trying to solidify their position in the standings.  With lots on the line, each team brought their respective veteran aces to the mound Cameron Kelly for the Padres and Owen Mongeon for the Reds.

In the top of the first, the Reds were able to scrape together a run scored by Antman (Anthony Manolakos) on an RBI single by Owen Mongeon.  Nate Duerden would also single in the inning but Cam posted 3 K’s amongst those hits to end the threat.  Cam Kelly would look to get back with a nice single to left center in the home half of the first but was stranded at 2nd base.

Cam would only need 13 pitches in the 2nd to record 3 straight K’s.  Owen would try to match but Jack Costa would foul off 5 consecutive pitches before hitting a single to shortstop.  He was also stranded at second to end the inning.

The Reds would make use of a couple of seeing-eye-singles in the 3rd with Colin Duffy collecting a nifty base hit down the line that hit 3rd base to stay fair!  The Reds would plate 4 runners including Colin Duffy and Oliver Jonason.

The 4th inning would bring Sota Matsuda to the mound and would strand 3 runners while getting 3 K’s.  The Padres would get on the board in the 4th with Sota knocking in Cam Kelly.

The Reds would score some insurance runs in the 6th with Oliver Jonason leading the way with a sharp single down the 1st base foul line that found it’s way into right field.  Nate Duerden, the rookie, who came on in relief in the 4th would yield some well-hit balls to Brody Sheard, Cam and Sota which brought in 2 runs but the rally would end shortly after.

Final Score 11-3 in favor of the Reds.  Best wishes for a healthy, safe and enjoyable remainder of the season and playoffs to both clubs.
