It was a nice night for baseball at Dean 3 for a divisional rematch between the Angels and Orioles. Joshua Hamm took the mound for the home team, Orioles. Hamm got Bowley to line out to first base to start the game. Hamm got the next batter to retire before Ben Griffith earned a walk.  Hamm was able to retired the last batter and get out of the inning. Brad Reynolds took the mound for the Angels and found similar success. He got Drew Peris to fly out to right centerfield for the first out. Reynolds got the next batter to retire for two quick outs. Matt Schofield singled but was stranded when Oliver Canavan grounded out to first for the last out of the inning. After one inning of play, the game remained scoreless.

Hamm returned to the mound for his second inning of work. He was able to retire the first batter. Reynolds came to the plate and earned a walk. Next, Max Walther was hit by a pitch. Charlie Goodchild singled to load the bases for the Angels. Zach Bowley hit a RBI single to score the first run of the game. Connor Mudd was hit by a pitch to allow another run to score. Hamm buckled down and was able to retire the next two batters to get out of the inning. Reynolds returned to the hill in the second inning. He was greeted with a double off the bat of Joe McKenzie to right centerfield. Josh Hamm earned a walk & Max Diaz singled to push across the Orioles first run of the inning and game. Patrick Kane earned a walk, Landan Gray singled to right field to push across two more runs, Asher Huang earned a walk and Drew Peris singled. Ryan Keddy and Schofield both earned walks before Max Walther came in to relieve Reynolds. Canavan, McKenzie, and Hamm singled in more runs for the home team. Walther got Diaz to ground out, and the next batter to retire, for the last out of the inning. After two innings of play, The Orioles led the Angels 10-6.

Andrew Peris entered the game in the third innings as the pitcher for the home team. He was able to make a tough play off Reynolds’ bat to record the first out, and was able to retire the next batter. Charlie Goodchild was able to sandwich in a walk before Peris recorded the last out of the inning. Andrew Maio took the mound for the Angels. He had his defense making plays behind him. He got Gray to groundout on a nice play by their third baseman Charlie Goodchild. Then, Ben Griffith took away a single from Asher Huang as he went deep in the hole, between second and third, and threw him out for the second out of the inning. Drew Peris earned a walk, but Maio was able to get Keddy to line out on a diving catch by the centerfielder. After three innings of play, the score remained unchanged 10-6 in favor of the O’s. Great defense Angels!

Peris returned to the hill to face a determined Angel’s team. Bowley, Mudd, and Griffith started off the inning with singles, which pushed across another run for the Halo’s. A heads up play between Canavan (at 3rd base) and Peris created the first out of the inning as they were able to tag a base runner out at third for the first out of the inning. Peris worked hard to retire the next two Angel’s in order to get out of the inning only giving up one run (great work Drew). Maio returned to the mound to face the other determined team. The O’s led off the inning with Schofield and Canavan earning a walk. McKenzie collected his third hit of the game driving in another run for the O’s. Maio then got the next two batters out to retire the side. After four innings of play, the Orioles led the Angels 11-7.

Drew made his return for his third inning of work. He made it a quick one in the fifth inning by throwing eight pitches and retiring the Angels in order. Great work Drew!  Maio followed suit and took the hill for his third inning of work. Patrick Kane led off the inning with a single and would later score on Peris’s triple. The Angels were able to make a great relay from centerfield to Caleb Juaire at the dish to get Peris out trying to stretch his triple to a homerun. Great effort Drew! Awesome throw, catch, and tag Angels! After five innings of play, the Orioles led the Angels 12-7.

Peris was up to the task of closing out the game as he took the mound for the top of the sixth. The Angels had other ideas… After Jace Sweetwood earned a walk, Bowley found himself on first after a dropped third strike rolled to the backstop. Connor Mudd stepped in the batter’s box and ripped a triple down the right field line to score the players on base in front of him. He took home on an overthrow to pull his team within two runs. Ben Griffith hit the ball hard, through the Orioles infield and would come around to score. Peris then got the next batter out on strikes. Caleb Juaire singled and would come around to score the tying run. Peris retired the next two batters in order to end the threat. Maio was up for the challenge as he tried to extend the game into extra innings. He faced rookie Ryan Keddy who laced a triple to right centerfield. The Angels pulled their infielders and outfielders in, to try to prevent the Orioles from scoring the winning run. Matt Schofield rose to the occasion for the home team as he lined a single down the third base line to score Keddy in walk off fashion. Orioles win in the bottom of the sixth inning 13-12.

GREAT game boys! Well played all around! Good luck to both teams as we move closer to the playoffs!
