After 3 postponed games over the last week, we were finally able to play some baseball on Dean Field #3 with beautiful summer temperatures. The Tigers and Orioles started their season and the players did not disappoint. It was a well-played game from both teams with solid pitching and timely hitting.
The Tigers sent veteran Sam Bachini to the mound and he only faced four batters, striking out two. Drew Peris scored a run after some aggressive base running. In the bottom half, the Tigers bats were hot. Ryan Iagallo and Carter Marques hit singles and were brought home on Luke Gallo’s towering HR to left center on his first pitch of the season. Dylan Fanale also singled but O’s pitcher Josh Hamm was then able to retire the side. End of 1st Inning: Tigers 3, Orioles 1
Fanale took the hill for the Tiger’s in the second and it was a clean 1-2-3 inning with the help of his defense. Patrick Kane pitched for the O’s and was throwing strikes. Rookie Colin Marques reached first but was stranded at second as Kane recorded 3 K’s in the inning. End of 2nd Inning: Tigers 3, Orioles 1
Ace Tyrrell had his majors pitching debut for the Tigers in the 3rd and he didn’t disappoint with efficient pitching including 2 K’s. Matthew Raffi also made his Majors debut on the mound for the O’s and forced 3 pop-ups to first baseman Drew Peris. However, Carter Marques hit a single and was hit home by Luke Gallo’s second homerun of the game. End of 3rd Inning: Tigers 5, Orioles 1
Ace was back to pitch another inning in the 4th and only had to face 4 batters with 2 K’s and a walk in the inning. Veteran lefty hurler Drew Peris took the mound in the 4th and he was no match for the Tigers batters, recording 3 straight K’s. End of 4thInning: Tigers 5, Orioles 1
Ryan Iagallo pitched for the Tigers in the 5th and he was on, recording 2 strikeouts and only allowing a walk to James Troy. The Tigers struck for 2 more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Bachini reached on a single but was forced out at second. Marques scored on Luke Gallo’s rocket shot to center that 1 hopped the fence for his 6th RBI. Luke was hit home on a Dylan Fanale single. End of 5th Inning: Tigers 7, Orioles 1
There was no let-up from the O’s in the sixth inning. They rallied for 3 runs on singles by Raffi, Peris and Landan Gray and a walk by Hamm. But Luke Gallo preserved the win with 2 K’s and the Tiger's Marques gunned down an O’s runner at home to end the game. Final Score: Tigers 7, Orioles 4
What a great game between these two AL rivals! The Tigers went up early but the Orioles never gave up and closed the gap before running out of innings. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.
