Mother nature relented and on a warm summery evening the Angels and the Rangers played a terrific season opening game, with the Rangers prevailing 5-1.
The Angels jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st.   Rory Shanly wripped a double to right center field driving home Tyler Boehnke to give the Angels the early lead.
The Rangers wasted no time battling back to tie it in the bottom of the 1st.  Sam Cunniffe singled and advanced to second with some aggressive base running.  Owen Parry-Cruwys followed with a triple to right scoring Cunniffe to tie the game.  The Rangers took the lead in the 3rd on an RBI single from Brandon Curtis knocking in Aiden Austin who had walked; 2-1 Rangers.
In the 4th the Rangers tacked on another run, Keiran Kelly drove home Ryan White  on base with a walk and it was now 3-1 Rangers.
In the 5th the Rangers added 2 more runs.  Ben Guglietta led off with a sharply hit ball to the left side. Ben refused to stop---motoring all the way around the bases; 4-1 Rangers.  Aiden Austin followed that with his second walk, and Tim Pratt drove him home with a sharp single to right field and Rangers led 5-1.
The Rangers pitching was dominant all night.  Brandon Curtis started for the Rangers and pitched 3 innings, allowing only 1 hit, 1 run while striking out 9 batters.  Sam Cunniffe followed him and pitched 2 scoreless innings, striking out 6.  Owen Parry-Cruwys closed the game for the Rangers needing only 11 pitches to get 3 outs.  Final Score 5-1 Rangers.
The Angels got hits from Tommy Dowling and Rory Shanley.  Defensively they had what will be one of the plays of the season from Boden Kuhnel.  Playing right field he made a back handed grab of a wicked line drive off the bat of Sam Cunniffe,  in all likelihood saving a 3 run home run---what a catch!  The Angels also got fine pitching from Tommy Dowling, Andrew Stumm and Rory Shanley.
Offensively the Rangers got hits from Curtis, Cunniffe, Pratt, Parry-Cruwys, and Kelly.  In addition Vincent Gauthier made a fine catch at third base.
It was a well played game by both teams.  Best of luck for a great season!
