The Indians came to play as they were facing the undefeated Padres on a chilly Mother’s Day morning.

The visiting Padre’s would lead things off facing the gunner Charlie Kent. Louis Rossetti was the lead off batter for the Padres and was able to work the count to earn a walk, as did Connor Bouffard. Charlie settled down and earned his first K against a power house hitter - Dennis Moody. James Flanagan worked the count to get on base. Jack Costa was up next and ripped a good single to drive in Connor. Charlie had enough of that and quickly struck out the next two batters.  In the bottom of the first, the Padres sent James Flanagan to the mound. Indians came ready to swing the bats! It must’ve been the “knock out” game during Saturday’s practice to get the ready. Jake Linton ripped a single to get things going. Jack Molter and Jack Auen both earned walks. Charlie Kent hit a good single to drive in the Jake and Jack. Charlie King earned a walk and Colson Cotter crushed a good pitch for a single. End of One: Padres 1 – Indians 5.

Charlie Kent returned to the mound for the Indians. The arm was warmed up and he was bringing the heat, 3 K’s bing bang boom! James Flanagan returned to the mound for the Padres. James was also ready to bring the heat as he mowed down the next two Indian batters. The Padres retired the inning with a great play, Jake Linton hit liner to the short stop and a good throw to first base ended the inning. End of Two: Padres 1 – Indians 5.

Charlie Kent returned to the mound to start off the third inning. Charlie made quick work of the next three Padres. Charlie’s bullet proof confidence earned 3 more K’s. (9K’s in three innings). The Padres would make a pitching change in the bottom of third, sending Brody Sheard to the mound. Jack Molter would step up and got the Indians going with a single. Charlie Kent smashed the ball for double. Charlie “wild thing” King would also get a single.  Brody battled back retiring the next two Indian batters. End of Three: Padres 1 – Indians 7.

The Indians made a pitching change to lead off the fourth inning. Colson Cotter hit the mound ready to bring it. He was facing the top of Padres batting order. Louis Rossetti got the Padres going with single. Connor Bouffard followed with another well hit ball for a single. Colson settled in and struck out the next two batters with only giving up 1 run. Cooper Lindsey hit a liner down the third base line, Charlie Kent gobbled it up and stepped on third for the last out. Brody Sheard returned to the mound for the Padres. Joey Cerchio, Jesse Dullea, and Jake Linton showed good plate discipline by earning walks. Brody settled in and retired the side with no runs scored. End of Four: Padres 2 – Indians 7. Colson Cotter returned to the mound for the Indians for the fifth inning. Colson struck out the next two batters. The Padres weren’t going home without a fight as Jackson Morgan and Alex Keith by both hitting singles. Colson wasn’t flustered and quickly struck out the next batter. End of Game: Padres 2 – Indians 7.

That would be it for the game as time ran out. It was a well-played game by both teams. You can tell the teams are getting better as the kids are swinging the bats, pitching well, making defensive plays.
