On a perfect night for baseball, we had an American League match up between the Indians and the Athletics on Dean 3.  The Indians sent right hander Kunal Chauhan and his battery mate Keith Halacy.  The A’s countered with right hander Andrew Schmit and his battery mate Shawn Salt.

1st Inning:  The Indians bats came out aggressive.  Schmit countered by pounding the strike zone.  The Indians battled hard but Schmidt retired the side.  The A’s started with a triple to right by Salt which was followed by a single by Schmit and walks to Michael Hagopian and Michael Mendilian.  The A’s plated two runs but the Indians defense played hard and ended any big inning by the A’s.  A’s 2 – Indians 0

2nd Inning:  The Indians bats were still aggressive at the plate.  Cooper Ackerman, Drew Vincequere, and Chase Kinsky had great at bats against Schmit.  Schmit pitched very and was able to retire the Indians.  The A’s Prep call up Anthony Santiago walked and great multipitch at bat by Cooper Pimental but Chauhan pitched hard and retired the A’s.  A’s 2 – Indians 0

3rd Inning:  The Indians batters battled against Schmit.  Ryan McTigue and Lucas Perry had great at bats against Schmit.  The A’s retired the Indians.  The Indians sent relief pitcher Logan Miller to the hill.  Colby Coghlin singled and Schmit walked but the Indians defense turned a nice double play to get out of the inning.  A’s 2- Indians 0

4th inning:  The Indians aggressiveness finally paid off.  A walk by Max Domaleski and singles by Chauhan and Dylan Fuller plated two runs by the Indians.  Schmit pitched hard and was able to limit the Indians rally.  The A’s bats came alive this inning.  A single by Santiago got everything going. His single was followed by walks to Kelleher and Salt.  Coghlin doubled in two runs.  Schmit and Mendilian walked to push across a couple more runs.  A’s 8 – Indians 2

5th Inning:  The Indians came up to the plate with hungry bats.  However, Schmit kept them at bay.  The Indians brought in relief pitcher Dylan Fuller.  Fuller also kept the A’s bats silent.  A’s 8 – Indians 2.
6th Inning:  Andrew Schmit pitched a great game (5IP, 14Ks) and passed the ball onto his bullpen.  The Indians didn’t go down without a fight.  They were patient at the plate and loaded the bases.  Mendilian and the A’s closer, Will “The Thrill” McLaren were able to get out of a big rally by Coghlin spinning a 6-3 double play to end the game.

Final: A’s 8 – Indians 2

A great game played by both teams.  Good luck to the Indians the rest of the way.
