Coming off a loss to the
Dodgers, the Indians were looking to get back on track in a Sunday morning
matchup with the Reds.
In the
top of the first, the resilient Indians wasted no time striking back against
Reds starter Jackson Lee. Jake Linton
led off with a walk and promptly stole second base. The next two batters, Jack Molter (hit by
pitch) and Colson Cotter (walk) reached base to set the stage for their dynamic
cleanup man, Charlie Kent. Kent did not
disappoint, clearing the bases with a monstrous grand slam to right field that almost made it to Route 9. The Indians then loaded the bases again with
walks to Charlie King, Jack Auen, and Brian Healy. The Indians’ half of the inning came to an
end as Jesse Dullea drew a walk, scoring King and they reached their five run
limit. In the bottom of the first,
southpaw sensation Jake Linton struck out all three batters in impressive
fashion.
End of One: Indians
5 – Reds 0
In the top of the second, Jake
Linton showed that he is also talented at the plate leading the Indians’ charge
with a smashing triple against pitcher Sean Renaghan. Renaghan battled back, striking out the next
Indians batter. Colson Cotter knocked in
Linton with a timely single. Renaghan
escaped further trouble by striking out the next two batters. In the bottom of the second, the Reds were
able to put two runs across off of Linton.
Nate Duerden was hit by a pitch and Tony Quinones walked. They both scored after Sean Renaghan and
Brady Miller walked and Matthew Mastrogiovanni was hit by a pitch. The Reds rally was defused when the Indians
brought in their ace Charlie Kent and got Jackson Porter to pop up.
End of Two: Indians 6 – Reds 2
The Indians broke the game
open in the top of the third with a good eye for the strike zone. Jack Auen, Joey Cerchio, Brian Healy, Jesse
Dullea, Jake Linton, Jack Molter, and Colson Cotter got walks, while Charlie
Kent got a single. Auen, Cerchio,
Healy, Dullea and Linton all scored runs as the inning ended with the Indians
scoring the maximum of five runs. In the
bottom of the third, Charlie Kent continued his unbelievable stretch of
striking out batters by striking out the side.
End of Three: Indians 11 – Reds 2
In the top of the fourth,
the Reds brought in Nate Duerden who struck out three of the four batters he
faced. Vismay Prasad was able to smash
a single and steal second base. In the
bottom of the fourth, the Charlie Kent express kept rolling as he struck out
all three Reds for an impressive bounce back win for the Indians.
End of Game: Indians 11 – Reds 2
It was
a hard fought game and both teams played with a good attitude. Despite a night of rain, the coaches did a
great jobs getting the field ready and the teams prepared to play.
