The Mariners and Astros squared off for the second time this season on a warm spring evening. The Mariners came into the game riding high after taking down the Indians just before the Memorial Day break.

The Mariners would lead things off in the first facing veteran Colin Desruisseaux. The Mariners would make Colin work early, but he would settle in striking out three to kick things off. In the bottom of the first the Mariners would hand the ball to Dan Gonzaga. Patient at bats followed by a hit from Colin and a 2 run single by Brayden Mahoney helped propel the Astros to an early 3-0 lead. End of 1: Astros 3 – Mariners 0

Colin continued throwing strikes in the second leading to a 1-2-3 inning. In the bottom half of the inning the Astros would add to their lead working the count in their favor at each at bat, fouling off pitches and making the Mariners throw strike after strike.  End of two: Astros: 8 – Mariners 0

The third inning would be Colin’s last who finished his outing with a strikeout on the final batter he faced. Bottom three now and the Astros would tack on a few more insurance runs with hits coming from Parker Mulryan, Cam Randazza, and Brayden. End of three Astros 13- Mariners 0

To the fourth we go… and rookie Ryan Lee would take the mound for the Astros. The Mariners however would not go away quietly. Patient at bats loaded the bases for Dan who ripped a double to centerfield. The very next batter saw Josh Wright hit a stinger that looked like it was headed to the outfield but Bradyen was able to range and scoop up the ball for a put out at first just ahead of the slide. With five runs on the board and the Mariners poised to add to their run total Ryan would collect himself and deliver a perfect strike ending the game by way of the K. End of game: Astros 13 – Mariners 5

It was a great game by both teams. Some of the best at-bats of the season with both teams fighting to the end. Best of luck to the Mariners and Astros as they push towards the playoffs.
