The Reds and Royals started their game in late April and came together again on Thursday to determine a winner (after both teams won their regularly scheduled games).

The Royals sent Brady O’Connell to the mound who quickly got through the top of the order on 9 pitches.  The Reds were relying on Oliver Jonason who got two quick outs before the Royals loaded the bases.  Oliver settle down for a strikeout to end the inning.

End of 1: Reds 0, Royals 0

Brady went back to work for the Royals striking out 3 of 4 batters. In the bottom half, Cole Lonergan reached for the Royals to start the inning.  After alternating strikeouts and walks, Ram Kondapalli reached first plating Cole, before Oliver struck out the last Royal of the inning.

End of 2: Reds 0, Royals 1

It was all about the pitchers in the third.  Brady struck out 3 of 4 batters.  The Reds brought in Nate Duerden who struck out the 3 batters he faced.

End of 3: Reds 0, Royals 1

Brady was back out for the 4th, when Brayden Kulchy and Matthew Mastrogiovanni reached in between a couple of strikeouts.  With Brady’s pitch limit reached, the Royals turned to Max Mitchell.  A big hit by Nate in between a couple walks, plated 2 runs for the Reds.  Nate came back out in the bottom half of the inning striking out the side in between a couple of walks.

End of 4: Reds 2, Royals 1

It was all about the pitchers again in the fifth, with Max and Nate matching each other striking out 3 of the 4 batters they faced.

End of 5: Reds 2, Royals 1

The Royals brought in veteran Jackson Mitchell in the top of the 6th. Nick Winchester, Zander Campo, and Matthew Mastrogiovanni all scored before Jackson settled down to get out of the inning.  The Reds turned to CJ Hallinan in the bottom of the 6th.  Jacob Harrington and Wes Tuttle both reached base before TJ Hutt rocketed a shot over the center fielder’s head.  With a few patient at bats for the Royals, TJ and Brady would score and were looking for more before the Reds ended the threat on a great double play by the Reds.

End of 6: Reds 5, Royals 5 – with darkness setting in, the game would be put on hold.

Fast forward to a warm June night.  The Royals turned to veteran TJ Hutt who struck out the side in the top of the 7th in between a couple of base runners.  CJ Hallinan came back out in the bottom half of the inning.  CJ struck out 2 batters with a runner on before reaching his pitch count.  The Reds Jackson Lee came on and loaded the bases before recording a strike out to end another Royals threat.

End of 7: Reds 5, Royals 5

Onto the 8th, where TJ struck out the side sandwiched around a couple of base runners for the Reds.  Jackson Lee was back out for the bottom half of the inning with the Royals batters working the counts in their favor with Max Mitchell getting the game winning RBI with TJ scoring the final run.

End of 8: Reds 5, Royals 6

An exciting game from start to finish, and awesome to see all of the kids so excited and cheering in the final 2 innings while the fans were on the edge of their seats.  Good luck to both teams for the rest of the season!
