Playoff feel was in the atmosphere for the final game of the season. A rain shower earlier in the day put the game in question but some amazing hard work in the mud by the parents and coaches allowed this game to happen! A big thanks to everyone that helped!

It was a match up of aces as the Cardinals brought Anthony Santiago to the mound and the Sox had their hard throwing lefty Ian Taylor to counter. Ian was dominate from the start sandwiching 3k’s around a walk to Owen Michalowski.

The Cards were playing top level defense all night and were ready for the Sox hitters who indeed came out swinging. A huge catch in left field by Des Nichols of the bat of Jack Wharton was followed by a nice fielded ball from Anthony and then a nice catch at 3B base to strand Zak Salavardos at 3B

End of 1st 0-0

In the 2nd 3 more K’s from Ian Taylor kept the Cards off the board.

The bottom of the 2nd a hit and a stolen base from Krew Duprey and a nice hit from Andrew Blanchette to center to drive him in. Anthony would settle down for 3 straight K’s

End of 2nd Red Sox 1-0

In the 3rd Ian continued to be near unhittable with 3 straight K’s again.

In the bottom of the 3rd walks to Demetrios Athanasiou and a hit from Zak Salavardos got a rally going. A nice drive up the middle from Max Caputo would bring them both in. Three more great defensive plays in the field including another catch at third and another well fielded ball by Anthony stopped the Sox threat.

End of 3rd Red Sox 3-0

In the top of the 4th walks to Amanda Kelmer and Anthony Santiago would get a rally going for the Cardinals but Ian would bear down to K the side again and keep the shutout going. Great game from Ian Taylor yet again! In the bottom of the 4th the Sox kept up the hits as Andrew and Dylan would start it off with consecutive singles. Anthony would find another gear and strike out 3 straight batters!

End of 4th Red Sox 3-0

In the top of the 5th the Sox would call upon their other big left ace Jack Wharton for the old fashioned two inn save. The Cards would have other ideas. A walk to Owen and a big hit from Anthony Guarini that would turn into a triple would drive Owen in. Jack would get two K’s but Anthony would score on a pass ball. Pressure was starting to mount. A walk to speedy Christian Prizio kept the inn going. He would steal second. On his attempt to steal 3rd Krew Duprey fired an amazing strike to Max for the out and retired the side.

In the bottom of the 5th Jack helped himself with an insurance run of his own. He hit a big line drive triple to right field and would score on the over through attempt to get him out at third. Max would get another hit in this inn but two more well fielded balls at the pitcher position one again by Anthony and one by Des Nichols would end the inn.

End of 5th 4-2

Red Sox In the top of the 6th the Cards were down to there last at bat. A lead off walk would get the Cards going. Jack would get a big K and then another strike to third by Krew Durpey behind the plate would get another would be base stealer. The Cards would get another walk but Jack bared down to get the final out and the Red Sox victory.

Final Red Sox win 4-2

Great game all around. Good Luck to both teams entering the playoffs.
